Cats

geena out loud
I don't know how many cats I've had in my lifetime - too many to count. I've just always had one or two or three of them. Until this move to Sweden. It would just be nearly impossible to have one here in the city, here in this apartment. But that doesn't stop me from wanting one and missing the company of a purring pal.

Björn and I daydream sometimes about living someplace else (like a house) and having pets (for him - a yellow Lab, for me - two cats). But I'm not holding my breath for that little half-acre of garden paradise.

There's a cat in the neighborhood who walks down our street every night around 11pm. I've taken to standing out on the balcony waiting for him, whispering "Hey, kitty-kitty" softly when he strolls past. He looks up at me now and acknowledges my presence before continuing his nightly rounds. He wears a collar, so I'm pretty sure he has a name and a bowl of food and, hopefully, a welcoming lap when he gets back home again.

Pets. I'm sad for Liz whose husband is allergic. I'm happy for Carolyn whose dog is such a pal to her. I'm grateful for my friend from Florida, Michelle, who has my Champagne Kitty and loves her just as I would if I had her here.

I've got 3 English Cockers who are happy in our "tre rum o kök" on the 2nd floor :) hehe You can feel free to drop by any time you're in Dalarna. They'll slobber you to death. (Not literally.)

I've always had kitties before I moved here also. It's impossible now with Maxie who doesn't know his own strength and is a bit too eager with kitties. But I have a cat who has bravely adopted me. When Maxie is out of reach on his leash outside, Julius the Imperious stalks up the steps and into our always open apartment door to inspect the premises, disdainfully eat out of the dogs' bowl, and stalks out again. If I happen to catch him hanging around he loves to be scratched behind the ears and petted down his back to the tip of his tail. Ken feeds him the fishes that he catches that are too small for us. He thinks we're cool, allowing for the dog, of course.

Yes, we have a kittie as well, in our small 50 sq metre(that spelling was purely for Nic) apartment

Indoor/outdoor or just indoor? And do you have a litter box? Kitty would have to be indoor only since we live so high up (and the traffic is too deadly outside the doors). And there's no place here for a litter box. I just go round and round in my head whenever I try to solve this puzzle.

The swedish kittie dilemma 2005;-)
indoor kittie....we have the litter box in the livingroom in a corner. I hear a mangling(eeeh, spelling on that??) session is coming...maybe I can help you solve your kittie dilemma then.

I understand your longing for a pet (though cats make me break out in hives). I am somewhat desperate for a dog, probably a yellow lab, but it is just completely impractical in a little apartment. We'd probably be able to handle a small breed dog, but wouldn't want one with a baby on the way since they are typicially nippy and yippy. My mom is trying to talk us into a basset hound since they are so low key. She has a basset mix and it is a really friendly, loving dog. I wouldn't mind one at all, though it would just be too big here I think. Plus they are dumb as rocks. Wow. Talk about more info than you needed. I just wanted to say I feel your pain!

Low key
We have a full bred bassett hound that we acquired. My bro and his wife flew him here from tx as a puppy. It was there wedding present to each other, well turn's out she never had a dog and didnt know she was allegic to them.Yes, there lazy and low key but your right, they dont listen to anything. There ears are always dirty, they slobber water all over the floors, and they shed something fierce. My hubby is thinking about breeding ours, I dont know about all that. They are loving animals, but out of 4 dogs I'd have to say my beagle is my favorite. My hubby agrees that she behaves the best.Yellow labs are high energy dogs, I like the chocolate ones better.

You're so sweet. The longing for a cat just kills me sometimes. I also had cats my whole life, and only gradually became allergic to them. I took pills in Chicago, but here it's just not an option with Anders' asthma. I miss my furry companions SO MUCH. Couldn't you get a covered litterbox to put somewhere? Under the sink in the bathroom? In a closet you can prop open? I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that some day you'll be able to solve the problem or move to a bigger place :)

Lion's and tigers and bears oh my
Well we have three dogs inside our house, and sometime's it's a pain in the rump. For the most part though there great, especially my beagle. We do have a full bred basset hound named bently that is dumb as a box of rocks, and there's ben's beloved dog bandit, the jack russell, who gets treated better then I do :) Oh, dont forget his k-9 german shephard dustin. All I know is when we buy this acre of land were looking at, and build the house we want, the dogs are staying outside.I'm tired of sweeping the wood floors 2 or 3 times a day.Since we dont have kids, these are all our balls of energy.

I used to keep my cat's litterbox in the bathtub. It made for some interesting showers if your didn't rinse the tub after you removed the pan and before you took the shower. (Cat litter is hard on bare feet.)

We are getting a puppy in a few weeks, a solky terrier. You can come over and play with him.

litter in tub
the tub is a wonderful place for litter boxes and for raising baby ducks until they get big enough to go outside in the pen to grow some more to go to the lake.
Scoopal litter is not as hard on the feet but is murder on drains if washed down the tub..
Confusios say: (sp) litter in the tub means loving cat very much..

Re: litter in tub
Since I couldn't spell last night---

We are getting a SILKY terrier, not a Solky one, and definitely NOT a Sulky one!

Geena's dad: Thanks for the baby duck tip. It will be helpful in case some ever come ringing at the door. :-)
One question: Where do the babies go when you need to take a bath? :-)

Re: litter in tub
Regarding ducks in the tub, it reminds me of a commercial for Animal Planet, the TV channel (Discovery). Someone prepares an ice cold bath, and in walks a penguin, happy to find a place which resembles its natural habitat. They used to have several similar clips; build a crocodile nest, let a parrot nest in the office and so on. The only part I didn't like was their motto that animals are so much superior to humans. What's wrong with being equal?

Every cat on this planet thinks (knows?) they are superior to humans. Just ask one. :-)

The penguin commercial was always one of my favorites. I don't know what we would do without Animal Planet on TV. We watch that more than anything else. We can almost recite the episodes of Monkey World word for word. Maybe we need to get out more...

I'd love to have a cat, but I'm allergic to them. I can stand them for a visit to someone though.
